TOP SPORTMAN - Midwest Top Sportsman racers will not be competing Saturday or Sunday, Sept. 12-13 at Byron Dragway due to inclement weather.
According to a group Facebook page post on Thursday, “We understand the forecast looks good for Sunday as of now, but the possibility of heavy rains Friday and Saturday on top of all the rain they've had B.J. [Vangsness, track owner] does not feel confident they will be able to dry the track out for us to race on Sunday.”
The cancellation is the third this season. The first was May 23 at Cordova International Raceway, and the second occurred at Route 66 Raceway. The group has had three races – two at Byron on Aug. 1-2 and one at Cordova on Aug. 22.
The last race of the season is Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3-4 at Bryon. An announcement will be made about the schedule and purse for the event, which is in conjunction with the World Power Wheelstanding Championships.
The group is having a chili cook-off on Oct. 3 at the race. Group members, crewmembers, and fans are welcome to participate. Members of the group will vote on the best concoctions, and an MWTS trophy will be presented to the first-place chef.
